Yesterday's buds, Today's Flowers

A tribute to buds...it is about time I did one! After all, aren't we gardeners always looking out for buds on the branches of fruit trees, on the stems of flowering plants? We look with anticipation, and the slightest sign of a bud brings forth a cheer, a yelp of delight!

What's Blooming in Kunming?

It is not a good time for plants here in my My Garden Haven. The weather has been hot and dry, and my hydrangeas are almost spent. My gladioli plants too are browning-off.

Looks like we have to go seek blooming gardens, and since I have just returned from early spring in Yunnan Province in China, I shall flaunt the spring flowers I photographed there for Tootsie' Fertilizer Friday.

So what's blooming in Kunming, you ask? Quite a fair bit, ladies. Big and small, yellow and purple, in the parks, by the lakes, on the mountains...for Katarina, at Blooming Friday, I present the big and the small.

We'll flaunt the small flowers on big trees first:

Small blossoms

on a big tree!

Or...small flowers surrounding a big tree!

Some of the colours and shapes of flowers are rather unique:

Others are plainly...pretty. There are masses of colours in the parks:

And the prerequisite in every country with a temperate climate,  the pansies in a pretty pot:

The wild flowers grow from under limestone rocks in the Stone Forest!

But these are planted for their effect as a Western-style garden to frame the karst landscape in the background:

Oh, and by the lake...I found to my disbelief...vermillion tulips!

And a field of poppies.

Mosaic Monday - A rose by any colour...

'Oh my love is like a  red, red rose' have you ever tried spinning this yarn for a lovely lass, gentlemen?
Here's the full original version as written by Robert Burns back in the 18th century, if you have a need for it to accompany that bunch of red roses you have bought for your lady.

She might not be able to appreciate such old fashioned sentiments so be sure the roses you are giving her says it all. Choose the reddest of red roses you can find!

A Red Red Rose

O, my luve's like a red, red rose,
          That's newly sprung in June.
O, my luve's like the melodie,
          That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I,
And I will luve thee still, my Dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

Till a' the seas gang dry, my Dear,

And the rocks melt wi' the sun!
O I will luve thee still, my Dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only Luve,

And fare thee weel a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile!

                                      Robert Burns

No, no not blue ones like those above. Not those pink ones either...the colour's not red enough!

The right colour but not showy enough...

Hey, wait...this one is lovely! Or that one even! Tell you what gents, if you see roses like these two yellow ones, grab them, for your girlfriend will surely love them!!!

Oh my love is like a yellow, yellow rose...

Sounds alright to me.
